From @StaffRideGuy NEWSLETTER AUSA and ROTC Staff Ride to Vicksburg
March 13, 2013
Long neglected because of the greater newsworthiness of Gettyburg the day before, the Vickburg Campaign of 1863, cut the Confederacy in two, brought the entire Mississippi under Union control, and resulted in the elevation of U.S. Grant to command of all Union forces. This year is the 150th Anniversary.AUSA North Texas Chapter has accomplished the Battlefield Staff Ride to Vicksburg in the fall with ROTC Cadets here in North Texas. Walk the fight. Talk about leadership decisions that were taken. Why they were taken and what other options might have been considered. And we’ll critique a paper I wrote on Grant at Vicksburg while I was a student at US Army War College. It was more than fun, instructive.
